Well, it really does represent something of a sea change in all of
this, and it means that there will be a lot of people who are nominated
tonight at the Oscars that you may not know very well. Case in point,
the Cinderella story of these Oscars, Billy Bob Thornton, unlikely
name, unlikely movie, "Sling Blade." Thornton has always been a bit-
part actor. He wrote a movie for himself, devised an unforgettable
character, made the movie for a million dollars, which is spare change
in Hollywood, and now he's a best actor nominee. Wow.
