Apollo, training ground for famous entertainers.

For more than 50 years, the Apollo Theatre has been a Mecca for African-American entertainment. Many of the 20th century's superstars, such as Lionel Hampton, Michael Jackson, Sammy Davis Jr. and Diana Ross, received their greatest reviews when they performed on the Apollo stage.

Other stars, like James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and '90s R&B singer DeAngelo boosted their careers after they performed at the famous "Amateur Night at the Apollo" talent competition. It was from this rich history that the Apollo received its reputation as being the place "where stars are born and legends are made."
