Eva Shain's Fighting Spirit; `Dangerous' Dana Goes Down.

Eva Shain couldn't believe her eyes. She walked into Madison Square Garden on Sept. 29, 1977, and took the fight card from Floyd Patterson, then New York state's boxing commissioner, and saw that she was going to be judging the Muhammad Ali-Ernie Shavers fight.

If she had any doubts about judging such an important bout, however, they were assuaged by The Greatest's response at the post-fight press conference. Ali was asked how he felt about a woman judging the fight. After learning that Shain had put him ahead on her scoring card, he smiled and said he approved.
