Welfare Reform?.
Last Friday, I convened a meeting of my Washington, DC and Baltimore staffs. We meet regularly to discuss important events, meetings, and policies that are important to Baltimore's citizens. Toward the end of our meeting, two of my caseworkers began discussing some of their pending assignments.
They barely held back their emotions in describing families that are faced with eviction, adults who have exhausted their unemployment benefits with still no hope of finding sufficient employment, and mothers desperately seeking Aid a Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) because their families are without food, clothing and ...
