Gowda Govt. Cruises Along as Busy Session Ends.
Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Aug. 5 to probe reports that the telephones of Congress Party President P.V. Narasimha Rao and other party leaders close to him were being tapped.
Gowda told a press conference at the Jammu airport after a visit to Ladakh and Jammu Aug. 5 that some people "wanted to create confusion between the Congress and the United Front government and we will not allow this to happen." He said he had asked the CBI to conduct a "thorough investigation" into the issue. "There is no question of sparing any one responsible for it," he said.
