NEAL CONAN, Host: This is Morning Edition. I'm Neal Conan. The Supreme
Court of Michigan ruled last night that assisted suicide has always
been illegal in that state and that a specific law to prohibit it
may be unnecessary. The ruling overturns several lower court decisions.
It says there is no constitutional right to aid in carrying out a
suicide in Michigan. Presumably, the ruling means that Dr. Jack Kevorkian,
who's assisted a number of suicides there, could be prosecuted under
existing law. Joining me from East Lansing, Michigan, is reporter
