JACKI LYDEN, Host: Temperamental divas are the stuff of opera legend,
but this past week, reality imitated art. The Metropolitan Opera
of New York fired leading soprano Kathleen Battle. Disagreements
between singers and opera companies occur, but the Met's blunt language
was almost unprecedented. Ms. Battle was fired just days away from
appearing in Donizetti's Daughter of the Regiment for `unprofessional
conduct that was deemed profoundly detrimental to the artistic collaboration
