EDWARDS: For decades the tobacco industry has benefited from the
support of the United States government. Even as health experts warned
of the dangers of smoking, the government poured millions of dollars
a year into tobacco export promotion programs and subsidies to tobacco
farmers. But, lately, all that's been changing. Money for tobacco
programs has been drying up, and both supporters and opponents of
the tobacco industry say a growing anti-smoking attitude is now driving
