BOB EDWARDS, Host: Singapore is trying to plan for an aging population.
More nursing homes are under construction, even though many people
are reluctant to use them, and the government is considering legislation
to penalize those who fail to support their parents financially.
Under the proposed law, violators would be subject to fines, or even
jail terms. The proposal has generated intense public debate, something
that's unusual in Singapore. NPR's Eric Weiner prepared this report.
