BOB EDWARDS, Host: Normally at this time of year the baseball fans'
vocabulary is filled with words such as `pennant race,' `magic number,
' and `Sunday double-header.' However, with the players on strike,
the phrase `salary cap' is ringing in everyone's ears. Commentator
Frank Deford says the only cap he wants to think about is the one
you wear on your head.
FRANK DEFORD, Commentator: Maybe you can help me. When did baseball
caps become fashionable outside of baseball? Now, it seems to me
that when the history of men's hats for the 20th century is written,
it will go like this. First, everybody wore Fedoras all the time.
