KORVA COLEMAN, Host: Modern dance choreographer Eric Hawkins died this past week in New York. He was 85. Hawkins was known for his break from formal ballet technique, even though he'd studied under the renowned master, George Balanchine, in the 1930s. Hawkins never adopted the Balanchine method, which de-emphasizes the individual or personality in favor of the group. He also refused to follow the ultra-modern styles of his contemporaries.
