NOAH ADAMS, Host: A senior Russian official said today that a conference should be called to work out a solution to the North Korean crisis. North Korea has refused to allow full inspections of its nuclear sites. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister also said, under a treaty signed in the 1950's, Russia has pledged to support North Korea if it is the subject of an unprovoked attack.

Also today, South Korea's president, Kim Young Sam, visited Beijing in China and said his nation will pursue a policy of dialogue and persuasion to solve the standoff and this tone contrasts with warnings only days ago that South Korea's patience was running out.
