LINDA WERTHEIMER, Host: This week, we've been exploring the relatively
new world of multimedia. We've discovered that at the heart of a
successful multimedia production is the computer's ability to skip
around in truly massive amounts of data and present that data for
your eyes and ears in a fraction of a second. Multimedia allows you
to move quickly from a text article on the '60s to a video of John
Kennedy or to rocket down a narrow canyon blasting alien spacecraft.
It takes a lot of computing power to handle all of the bits that
create those images and sounds. And now cheaper storage devices like
the compact disc and more powerful microprocessors ...
