ROBERT SIEGEL, Host: Poet Andrei Codrescu, who is Romanian born and
is now a citizen of the United States, is a man who loves words, but
during a recent visit to France for a literary conference, he experienced
something of a language crisis.
ANDREI CODRESCU, Commentator: After a few days of speaking French
and Romanian at this literary conference in France, I started to lose
my mind. I couldn't remember simple English words like `of' and `which.'
By the end of the week, I had a complete linguistic nervous breakdown.
I sat down at the cafe amid mini-skirts and maxi-prices and ate a
crepe, trying to remember how to say, `This is weird.' My whole face ...
