LINDA WERTHEIMER, Host: Tomorrow is the fifth anniversary of the fall
of the Berlin Wall. The whole world rejoiced along with the East
Germans on that day in 1989. From that moment on, it was a quick
dash to Germany unity. But life did not improve for everyone after
unification. Michael Lawton visited with some Germans who have found
their new freedom is full of hardships.

the people involved could quite believe it - from one moment to another,
the border which had seemed so solid just melted, and the border
guards who would have shot you yesterday were reduced to smiling as
