BOB EDWARDS, Host: The California legislature has passed one of the
country's most stringent bans on smoking in the work place. Only
Utah and Vermont have tougher statutes. But, even if California Governor
Pete Wilson signs the bill into law, it still could be superseded
by a ballot initiative funded by the tobacco industry which would
permit smoking in public places. From San Francisco, NPR's Thuy Vu
reports.
THUY VU, Reporter: The smoking ban approved by California lawmakers
would replace the more than 100 local smoke-free ordinances in the
