JACKI LYDEN: We noticed, in no less prestigious a paper than the Wall
Street Journal, last Friday that spike heels are back for spring.
We're talking a six-inch heel here, the kind so dangerous you could
just about hammer it through the floor or send yourself to the podiatrist
if you actually walked in them. Some of the shoes have names like
top designer Manolo Blanik's Esmetillia [sp]. These little open-toed
numbers cost $455. Whatever you may think of spike heels, they are
as associated with glamour as other American objets, like cherry-red
'66 Mustangs and 1940s cigarette holders. Marin Hopper [sp], the
senior fashion editor at Elle magazine, says ...
