HANSEN: Last week we broadcast the first part of our conversation
with pianist and composer Keith Jarrett, recorded at his home studio
in rural New Jersey. We talked about the dynamics of playing in a
trio, his love and respect for jazz standards, and his early days
at the Deerhead Inn.
The second part of our conversation begins with his memories of the
1970s, before he became known for his solo improvisations. It was
a time when jazz was being overshadowed by rock 'n roll. Keith Jarrett
toured the world with saxophonist Charles Lloyd's quartet before hooking
up briefly ...
