BOB EDWARDS, Host: Republicans in the House of Representatives have
won another victory in their campaign to rewrite the crime bill passed
by Congress and signed into law by President Clinton last year. The
House voted yesterday to set a one-year limit on the time death row
inmates are allowed to file federal appeals of state sentences. It
also voted to allow prosecutors to use evidence that's been obtained
illegally. Today the House takes up more changes in the crime bill.
President Clinton threatens a veto if the Republicans, in his opinion,
go too far. NPR congressional correspondent Brian Naylor reports.
