LIANE HANSEN, Host: The Connecticut Civil Liberties Union has filed
a lawsuit. It charges that public defenders are so overworked that
the state is in violation of the constitutional provision that guarantees
the right to representation. Public defenders in Connecticut handled
an average of 1,000 cases a year. And, many court-appointed attorneys
only have a few minutes to review each client's case. From member
station WFCR, Pippin Ross prepared this report.
