The Central African Republic (C.A.R.) is situated, as its name indicates, in the center of the African Continent. It is bordered by Zaire and the People's Republic of Congo to the South, Chad to the North, Sudan to the East and Cameroon to the West. Its area is 623.000 square km, about the size of Texas. The country forms a transitional area between the subsaharan savana and the equatorial West African forest. The landlocked situation of the C. A.
