Chapter 3B. Transportation and Settlement Patterns
The transportation system in early 1970 was not fully developed,
but it
was sufficient by central African standards to meet the existing needs
of the
country. The most important communications feature of the system was
the
Oubangui-Congo waterway, supplemented by the Brazzaville-Pointe-Noire
railway,
which provided the principal outlet to the sea (see fig. 4). The fairly
extensive highway network and the smaller navigable rivers acted as
feeder
systems to this major transportation route.
