Nonagricultural activities employed about 13 percent of the labor force in 1980 but produced about 64 percent of the estimated GDP. The growth of most industry and services has been poor-textiles and other light industries performing the best. There have been promising developments in the power and energy sector, and the nation has considerable resources of minerals for future exploitation. Most of these, however, would be prohibitively expensive to exploit considering the nation's severe transportation problems. Both transportation and pricing problems have disrupted the operations of service enterprises.
