Mikhail Gorbachev was born in 1931. From the age of 15 he worked
as a
harvester operator's assistant at a machine-and-tractor station combining
his
work with studies at school. He graduated from the Department of Law
at
Mikhail Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1955. In 1967 he graduated
from
the Department of Economics of the Stavropol Agricultural Institute
(by
correspondence). After graduating from the university he worked in
the
Stavropol Territory in the legal profession, and was soon appointed

head of the Department of Propaganda and Agitation of the Stavropol
