Two government-sponsored studies failed to find evidence to support that beta carotene supplements reduce the risk of cancer. One study suggests that use of the vitamin by smokers may increase cancer risk.

ROBERT SIEGEL, Host: Today, researchers released the results of two major studies that cast serious doubt on whether the popular vitamin, beta carotene, offers protection against cancer. The government- sponsored studies failed to find any evidence that beta carotene actually reduces a person's cancer risk, and one of the reports suggests it might even increase the risk of cancer for some people.
