Visitors to Washington, D.C., this weekend found most of the most popular
tourist sits closed, included the Smithsonian Institution and the
national art galleries.
SUSAN STAMBERG, Host: It's All Things Considered. Daniel Zwerdling
is away; I'm Susan Stamberg on the National Mall in Washington, where
it certainly is not business as usual for a Sunday. Or maybe it is.
This is day two of a semi government-less United States of America,
the second day on which the government has been partially shutdown
as a result of a stalemate between Congress and the White House, deadlocked
over the budget.
On this day, the search is on for signs of compromise, but ...
