For the first time, mountain bike racing will be an Olympic event in
the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games. Racers are vying for the four
spots - two men, two women - on the U.S. Olympic team.
NOAH ADAMS, Host: Would you have ever thought that you could make
a living riding a bicycle in the woods along a rocky trail across
a meadow? Ned Overand [sp] does. He is 40 years old, a veteran of
the new sport of mountain bike racing, and at this moment he's deep
into an event in Georgia.
[sounds of spectators cheering]
NOAH ADAMS: A lot of the spectators know Ned Overand. He's the top
U.S. male rider at this race in Georgia, a former world champion.
