Economic development has been slow in coming to Ghana, despite prompting
by some Western countries toward multi-party elections and foreign
investment opportunities.
BOB EDWARDS, Host: This is Morning Edition. I'm Bob Edwards.
Ghana often is viewed as a model of economic success. It was
among the first African countries to sign on to the free market reforms
called for by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
In the last several years it has also peacefully introduced multi-
party government. The country's second open elections are expected
