The Citizens Alliance of Washington is gathering 181,000 signatures
for Initiative 167 to be put on the ballot. The measure, if passed,
would authorize only married couples as adoptive or foster parents.

Israeli fisherman Shlormi Korkuls [sp] left Haifa on Friday with two
pals. About two-and-a-half miles from shore, their boat took on water
and sank too fast for them to radio for help. The three were treading
water when Korkuls remembered he had a cellular phone in his pocket.
He shook out the water and dialed police in Haifa. Within minutes,
