When Cal Ripken, Jr. suits up tonight and takes the field as shortstop
for the Baltimore Orioles he will be starting his 2,130th consecutive
baseball game, tying Lou Gehrig's record of consecutive starts.

Cal Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles will match one of the most hallowed
and enduring records in sports. Ripken has played in every Orioles
game since May 30, 1982. Over the past 13 years that adds up to 2,
129 games. Tonight, when he ambles out to shortstop as the O's take
on the California Angels in Baltimore, he'll tie the mark of 2,130
