Many Russian Jews have emigrated into Germany, now making Germany the
fastest-growing Jewish community in Europe and creating a need for
teaching of Jewish religion and traditions to the new population.
LIANE HANSEN, Host: Tuesday at sundown, Jews all over the world will
gather to mark the beginning of Yom Kippur, the day of atonement.
The high holy days are especially significant in Germany. In the
past five years, the Jewish population there has nearly doubled from
about 27,000 to some 50,000, making it the fastest-growing Jewish
community in Europe. Diedre Berger has more.
