Miami Beach has launched an aggressive campaign to build itself into
a gay tourist center. The efforts have encountered no resistance in
a town which thrives on tourism, allowing gays to feel comfortable
there.
ROBERT SIEGEL, Host: Over the years, the city of Miami Beach has
evolved from a mecca for Jewish vacationers and retirees fleeing Northern
winter to a center for immigrants from the Caribbean and Latin America.
Now, Miami Beach has been reborn again as a magnet for gay tourists.
As NPR's Derek Reveron reports, locals are launching an aggressive
campaign to make Miami Beach the destination for gay and lesbian travelers.
