Fanny Mendelssohn, unlike her famous brother Felix, was discouraged from publishing her music, and it wasn't until the last year of her life that she received the recognition she deserved.

ROBERT SIEGEL, Host: Pianist Sarah Rothenberg recently made a new CD of music by Mendelssohn - not Felix Mendelssohn but his sister, Fanny. Much of the recording is devoted to the work, Das Jahr. Our reviewer Tom Manoff says that its form, a kind of musical diary, provides a special insight into the composer's life.
