Dr. Paul McHugh says the 2,400-yaer-old Hippocratic oath has changed
over time, and he believes generally the oath has changed its focus
to the self-interest of doctors rather than to the benefit of the
sick.

in the United States recite a code of professional behavior that dates
back more than 2,400 years. The Hippocratic oath, named after the
ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, sets forth a number of ethical
principles that are widely viewed as universal and enduring.
