Scientists have been conducting research on the brain and have discovered
the cerebellum may play a more critical role than previously thought
of just coordinating eye-hand movements.
SCOTT SIMON, Host: For most people, picking up a cup of coffee from
a table while having a conversation, or hosting a radio program, is
a simple, even mindless, task. I guess for some of us, even hosting
a radio program can be a mindless task, but when you think about it,
it's actually fairly complicated. You have to locate the cup with
respect to yourself, measure the distance, then make a complex series
of muscle movements to reach for the cup of coffee without tipping
