In comments yesterday following the Whitewater verdict, Senator Orrin
Hatch said it was time for President Clinton to realize this is a
serious matter and encouraged him to come clean to the American people.
BOB EDWARDS, Host: Yesterday's guilty verdicts in the Whitewater
trial drew immediate praise from Republicans, who saw them as a sign
of vindication. Senate Whitewater Committee Chairman Alfonse D'Amato,
speaking on the ABC program Nightline last night, said `The jury
has spoken and I think it demonstrates the seriousness of the Whitewater
tragedy.'
Senator Orrin Hatch is also a member of the Whitewater committee.
