There has been political unrest in Bahrain for years, a port where
the U.S. Navy stations its Fifth Fleet. The Shiite majority wants
democracy and jobs and equality with the ruling Sunni minority.
BOB EDWARDS, Host: Bahrain is troubled by social unrest. While contained
for now, problems in the Persian Gulf nation could erupt, destabilizing
other countries in the region and threatening American interests.
Bahrain is a key U.S. ally - the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet is headquartered
there - but it's been unsettled by persistent and sometimes violent
protest. About 25 people have been killed since 1994. Bahrain's
Shiite majority is demanding democracy, jobs ...
