Sir Fitzroy Maclean, dead at age 85, was reknowned for his brave exploits
behind German lines during WWII and is thought to have served as the
suave, worldly model for Ian Fleming's James Bond.

a scholar, a diplomat, a commando who parachuted behind enemy lines,
has died in Scotland at age 85. He served Britain in Paris and in
