Scott Simon took a tour of Boston and he wanted to see what the tourists
do, so he visited the marathon, the ballet, and the tower of the old
North Church, the spot from which Paul Revere was given a warning.
SCOTT SIMON, Host: Boston, of course, is a capital city, capital
of a state and region, to be sure, but also a world center of commerce,
politics, education and the arts. A great capital embraces extremes,
and so Boston does. It can be both a bastion of privilege on Beacon
Hill and an immigrant port of entry in Jamaica Plain in South Boston,
a city of the founding fathers, and plundering war healers, a capital
for liberal politics and hard-headed racial ...
