Despite their conservative roots and enthusiasm for firearms, Arizonans
have expressed shock at the extremist ideologies of the various militia
groups that inhabit their state.
BOB EDWARDS, Host: This is the third time in the past year that federal
officials have investigated possible anti-government extremists in
Arizona. Oklahoma City bombing suspect Timothy McVeigh once lived
in the state and, last October, authorities investigated the possibility
that militia groups were behind the derailment of an Amtrak train.
Patty Candella of member station KJZZ in Phoenix talked with residents
about their reaction to Monday's arrests.
