SUSAN STAMBERG, HOST: After more than seven years of fruitless searching, some new light this week on what has been called the art heist of the century. In March of 1990, thieves forced their way into the old and graceful Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

They stole more than a dozen paintings and other artworks, valued at more than $200 million. And then they vanished.

Now a journalist in Boston reports having seen one of the paintings. And a convicted criminal says he has information that could lead to their recovery.

From member station WBUR, Toni Randolph reports.
