Statement of Majority Whip Tom DeLay Regarding the Tax Code Termination Act June 17, 1998

Mr. Speaker:

I rise in support of the tax code termination act.

Today, we have a simple choice. We can vote for this legislation and send a message that we are serious about designing a better, fairer and simpler tax code.

Or we can register our support for the current tax code by voting against this legislation. You will hear many arguments from opponents about how the world will end if we end the tax code. Those arguments can be summed up this way: the devil we know is better than the devil we don't.
