BOEHLERT: SCRAPPING TAX CODE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) released the following statement explaining his opposition to a bill to scrap the current tax code by 2002. The House passed the bill, sponsored by Rep. Steve Largent (R-Okla), this afternoon. The statement follows:

"A bill to eliminate the current tax code sounds good at first blush, but would actually leave all Americans worse off. First, the bill irresponsibly picks an arbitrary date on which the tax code will be eliminated, even though we have no idea whatsoever what will take its place. ...
