McCAIN-AKAKA OVERFLIGHTS LEGISLATION APPROVED BY SENATE COMMERCE COMMITTEE
Washington, D.C. - The Senate Commerce Committee today approved legislation,
the National Parks Air Tour Management Act of 1998, offered by committee
chairman John McCain (R-Arizona) and co- developed by Senator Daniel
K.
Akaka (D-Hawaii), that would establish significant regulatory controls
over air tour operations at national parks, including Hawaii Volcanoes
and Haleakala National Parks.
The legislation, included as an amendment to a bill to reauthorize
Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) programs, requires the FAA, in cooperation
