Jerry Brown was the governor of the most populous and richest state
in the union for two terms. He's run two credible national campaigns
for president. But given the reluctance about press and our culture
to allow politicians to change and redefine themselves, even over
the course of a long public career, he's been saddled with the reputation
that I can only guess is a pain in the neck.
Even after all these years, the economists referred to him just the
other week as "dreamy," and I can't imagine based on what. Jerry
Brown has been one of the most controlled, well-defined, ferocious
