SENATE APPROVES McCAIN BILL TO HELP SATELLITE TV CONSUMERS

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Senate late yesterday approved by unanimous consent a bill to help satellite TV compete with cable, and to correct problems that satellite TV customers now face in getting access to network TV programming. The Satellite TV bill, S.303, introduced by Senator John McCain (R- AZ), was passed as an amendment to Senator Orrin Hatch`s (R-UT) bill, S.247, to amend the Satellite Home Viewers Act to give satellite TV providers the copyright license they need to offer subscribers local TV stations.
