SENATE PASSES KENNEDY WORK INCENTIVES IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 1999

The United States Senate, by a vote of 99-0 today, passed landmark legislation sponsored by Senator Edward M. Kennedy that would remove the barriers that prevent so many citizens with disabilities from working and living independent and productive lives. The bill, the Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999, includes new tax credits, services and expanded health benefits for workers with disabilities. Senator James Jeffords sponsored the legislation in the Senate along with Kennedy.
