OSGOOD: American music like America itself is a melting pot enriched
by the music of people`s of other lands. We have absorbed many cultures
here, and what we now think of as American music echoes the rhythms
and tunes of continents far way. No music could be more American
than that of Israel Baline who came here from Russia as a boy, and
became known as Irving Berlin. And now one has done more to stir
the post of American musical diversity than Ahmet Ertegun someone
who came here as a boy from Turkey.
