WASHINGTON - (Army News Service, Sept. 29, 1999) - Pay raises for soldiers and Department of the Army civilian employees, and a "rollback" to the 50-percent military retirement system are one step closer to reality.

On Sept. 22, Congress passed the Fiscal Year 2000 Defense Authorization Bill that recommends the amount of money allocated to the military, said Department of Defense officials. The authorization bill now awaits President Bill Clinton's signature.

The Defense Appropriations Bill - which provides the money to fund Army programs -- is in congressional conference, said DoD officials. While the House and Senate iron out the appropriations ...
