Overview: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer
and the
second leading cause of cancer deaths among American women. Early
detection
through mammography and clinical breast exams are essential for effective
breast cancer screening.
For women age 50-69, having regular mammograms can reduce the
chance
of death from breast cancer by approximately 30 percent. Even in women
age 40-50, regular mammograms can reduce mortality rates by approximately
17 percent.
The Clinton Administration has responded to the significant threat
posed by breast cancer with increased efforts in research, prevention
and
